Alison Renfrew has a long record of providing financial advice to her clients.
Alison is one of the most qualified and experienced financial planners in New Zealand
After graduating from Victoria University with a BSc in 1982 she joined an international financial services company in 1983. Alison sold mainly life insurance and investment products. She was the first woman in the company to qualify for the prestigious Blue Ribbon award in her first year and the first woman to qualify for the Silver Ribbon award. Alison sold her business and moved to the UK in 1989 where she established a new client base in financial services.
On returning to New Zealand Alison established her own financial planning company where she applied her overseas experience and knowledge. Creating Wealth Limited was established in 1994 and was re-branded in 2005 to the LYFORDs group of companies. LYFORDS markets the leading financial service companies range of products from investments, retirement savings and insurances (life, trauma, income protection, health).
Alison has qualified by examination to be a member of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Insurance and Investment Advisers, 1998 and qualified by examination to be a Certified Financial Planner, 2001, and is entitled to use the distinctive titles and designations CLU - Chartered Life Underwriter and CFP - Certified Financial Planner, the pinnacle of professional attainment. Alison is the second person and first woman in New Zealand to hold both CLU and CFP. Fewer than 1% of advisers in New Zealand hold both qualifications. Alison complies with the Continuing Education requirements of the Institute of Financial Advisers.
Alison works with her husband Richard Renfrew, PhD, AFA, CFP in LYFORD Investment Management Limited and LYFORD Financial Services Limited trading as LYFORDS. They have three children Michael, Catherine and Rick.
Alison enjoys helping others to achieve financial independence and fulfil their financial goals. She is a trained opera singer, plays the piano, and enjoys travelling and skiing. Alison has served on the committees of the Wellington Underwater Club, Tararua Tramping Club, Scots College Parents Association (treasurer), and the Institute of Financial Advisers.

Certified Financial Planner are marks of the Certified Financial Board of Standards Inc (CFP Board) and are issued by the Institute of Financial Advisers under license. The CFP Board is an independent professional self regulatory body acting to benefit and protect the public in its dealings with persons engaged in providing financial advice by establishing educational, ethical and disciplinary standards, developing and administering examinations within the field of financial planning and authorising individuals who meet its criteria to use the CFP Board's Marks.
Authorised Financial Adviser:Alison is an 'Authorised Financial Adviser', registration number 35961 and must comply with the Code of Professional Conduct for Authorised Financial Advisers and obligations under the Financial Markets Act 2008 (including regulations made under the act) and under general law. Under the Financial Advisers (Disclosure) Regulation 2010 a disclosure statement is available on request and free of charge.
